Experiment 3
Pop Rocks vs. Crazy Dips
with Root Beer (Soda Pop)
Materials:
1. Strawberry Pop Rocks
2. Strawberry Crazy Dips
3. Petri Dish
4. Water Dropper
5. Root Beer
Procedure (Pop Rocks):
1. First, I put half a tspn. of Pop Rocks into a Petri Dish.
2. Second, I take in Root Beer with the dropper.
3. Third, I drop three equal drops onto the half tspn. of Pop Rocks.
4. Finally, I record my observations and the length of the popping.
Observations (Pop Rocks):
The pop rocks became very explosive in this experiment. Rocks actually started popping out of the petri dish. It appears the mixture of to carbon based reactive substances is quite an "explosive" combo. The popping lasted about nine minutes.
Procedure (Crazy Dips):
1. First, I put half a tspn. of Crazy Dips into a Petri Dish.
2. Second, I take in Root Beer with the dropper.
3. Third, I drop three equal drops onto the half tspn. of Crazy Dips.
4. Finally, I record my observations and the length of the popping.
Observations (Crazy Dips):
The popping was a little greater this time. The protective layer reached more mass, but quickly dicipated and there was nothing left once the popping quit in three minutes and five seconds.
Final Results:
Pop Rocks again beats Crazy Dips in time and reaction with Root Beer.
